Black, White, and Blue Bathroom

This primary bathroom had seen better days. After experiencing water damage around the old tub, and not loving their original bathroom selections from when they built their home, our Powhatan, VA clients were ready for an update. However, they didn't have the budget to completely redo the entire bathroom.

We decided to maintain the bathroom layout, renovate the tub and shower side, and just refresh the vanity and water closet side.

After a few conversations, we pinpointed their needs and wants:

• Create a stylish bathroom with personality, that feels spa-like, bright, and relaxing, and can stand the test of time (create an elevated vibe worthy of an owner’s bathroom)

• Repair damaged areas in bathroom and bedroom (floors, walls, central vac)

• Must have a soaking tub

• Replace the existing vanity lights with fresh fixtures they actually like, and incorporate lighting options with dimmer switches (she likes it bright, he likes it dark)

• Maintain a large, separate shower with a frameless, clear glass shower door

• Use materials that are easy-to-maintain and keep clean

• Install a shower system with high pressure, adjustable options, and a handheld shower wand to make it easier to wash their dog

• Increase storage inside the shower (space for scrub wand and shaving ledge)

• Increase overall storage space to include homes for towels and toilet paper

• Upgrade tile throughout the bathroom

• Incorporate some blue hues

Since we were keeping the existing vanity and countertop, we used the same granite as the curb top into the shower and pulled colors from it for the shower tiles. We added timeless crown molding throughout the entire bathroom (including the shower!) and a classic black and white checkered tile floor to elevate the space. We love the seamless mix of metal finishes throughout the space. The blue tile in a herringbone pattern keeps it fresh and fun, tied in with blue accents all around the bathroom from the mats and towels to the wall color in the water closet. Mission accomplished!
